Welcome to our town, a beautiful oceanside residential community, situated
at the entrance to one of the most beautiful harbors in New England! We are a peninsula of just about
1.6 square miles and boast some of the most spectacular views on the East Coast. On one side
we have a panoramic view of the outer harbor and Atlantic Ocean, and on the other we have the
Boston skyline and the inner harbor silhouetted against the sky.
In between, we have a wealth of affordable housing opportunities from stately
colonials to ranches, apartments, and waterfront condos.
Notwithstanding the views, we offer small town suburban living within minutes
to Boston. An excellent public transportation system gets workers into downtown Boston in about
fifteen minutes, or to nearby Logan Airport in less than ten.
The ease of commute allows residents to spend more time at one of our sandy
beaches, three local yacht clubs, marinas, golf course, community theatre, ball fields and ice
rinks, nine parks, Belle Isle Marsh Reservation, or at some of the many organized recreational
opportunities we offer.
History abounds in Winthrop. Winthrop was established as a town in 1852, but
has been settled since the 1600s. The Deane Winthrop House, which is open to the public, is one
of the oldest homes in America dating to 1637. Our cemetery has graves of our founding families
dating to the 1700s. The Kennedys summered on Washington Avenue, and we have a historical museum
located at the Winthrop Public Library.
Recreational opportunities also include a wide array of community events such
as the Horribles Parade and Fireworks on July 4th, Sandcastle Day, Old Fashioned Family Day at
the Beach, a Strawberry Festival, an Art Festival, and a Holiday Tree Lighting festival the day
after Thanksgiving.
Our business community is an active and vibrant one. We have six different business
areas, each in its own neighborhood, so that one only has to walk a short distance to purchase life’s
little necessities. And, our restaurants, cafes and inns are perfect for visitors. Our business
community offers all kinds of goods and services, and funds and participates in community events and
beautification projects.
Perhaps our greatest resource is our residents. For our children, we provide
excellent public schools comprising two new elementary schools, a middle school and a high school.
For our elderly, we have a Senior Center that is the envy of other communities, along with a myriad
of programs and activities. There are many clubs and organizations to accommodate many interests.
Also, only minutes away are Boston, Cambridge, and Salem.
WINTHROP – A world of difference, just minutes away.
